We're Sick - Sanctuary 001 Entrance

A secret room in the White House has the technology nearly everyone has dreamed of owning themselves. Electronic blueprints line the walls, and guards stand before the stairwell that leads down to Sanctuary 001, swords drawn. A few testing tables stand in one corner of the room where scientists can experiment with the embryos in a safer environment, but they are rarely used. There are exactly seven locks on the door to get in the room, and the door to the Sanctuary; you need a special ID card and a face register to enter.

Thomas walked into the secret room, two guards flanking his sides. He ran his finger over an electronic blueprint of Sanctuary 015's progress in their latest clutch of eggs. A blinking red dot indicated where each egg was located, and a clock in the corner showed how long it would be until they were ready to hatch. He smiled, proud of his accomplishments. He approached the staircase that led down to Sanctuary 001, sliding his identification card onto the reader and stepping closer so the machine could register his face. The door swung open, no light shining through the dark hallway.

Mirabella tapped her fingers in her leg as she waited for the elevator doors to open, then walked out. Walking down the dark hallway, she stopped in front of Thomas Wright and raised her eyebrows. "I saw you came in," she greeted, scanning the two guards subconsciously and raising an eyebrow at them.

Thomas chuckled to himself as Mirabella approached. He waved a hand to his two guards and they ran down the hallway, the door shutting behind them. "Long time no see," He spoke with a velvety tone. "How are the Dangerous Seven?" He asked, too tired to deal with their ongoing blackmail.

Mirabella turned back to Thomas after following the guards with her gaze. "Well, three of them are in the Cage after Shelby Huff decided to attack them with banned tranquillizer darts. Something about them trying to get out of Level 4, too. Speaking of, they need to be allowed access to other areas, like the level twos. It'll be easier to control them if they think they have more freedom," she replied, the last sentence having a slight edge to it. In contrast, her mouth was shaped into a smile. "What makes you come here now?" she asked, flicking her hair over her shoulder.

Thomas raised his eyebrows in suspicion at Mirabella's quite straightforward request. "You underestimate the Dangerous Seven," He snorted, fiddling his thumbs in his pant pockets. "If they were to step foot into the library the whole place would come tumbling down." He pursed his lips and pondered for a moment, considering her further comment about them being easier to control if they had more freedom. "But, I'll put it into mind." He gave her a snarky smile, ignoring her last question.

Mirabella continued subconsciously tapping her leg and shrugged. "I'm not underestimating anyone. If your power dullers work like they should, they'll be fine," she replied. She raised an eyebrow at him, tilting her head and wondering why he didn't answer her question. Likelihood was he was just ignoring her.

Thomas fixated his gaze on the electronic blueprint behind Mirabella, the red dots blinking quicker than before. "You say only three are in the Cage," He muttered, the hairs on the back of his neck rising as the dots became frantic. He didn't want to worry Mirabella with these problems, so he kept talking. "How is Azrail? He worries me sometimes." He tore his eyes from the blueprint, convincing himself it was just a malfunction.

Mirabella turned around, noting the blueprint, then turning back to Thomas. "The three in the Cage are Mariya Romanov, Daisy Augustus and Ashe Lanora. From what I've seen of Azrail recently, he's... not changed much. I am usually moving around here a lot, though," she replied, the hand that wasn't tapping her leg drifting up to her neck and pressing on it gently.

Thomas ran his fingers through his hair when Mirabella turned to watch the blueprint. He took a deep breath, trying to rid himself of bad thoughts, but he just couldn't get over the recent news that a monster had escaped from one of the Sanctuaries. Could the rapidly shaking dots on the blueprint be a part of that? "Do you think something is going wrong? Or, could it just be a malfunction in the wiring?" He asked Mirabella, hoping she would be able to calm him down like she used to before their relationship went down a rabbithole.

Mirabella sighed slightly. "Nothing's going wrong. These things malfunction, if it'll make you feel better we can call down one of the technicians. Plus, if anything was going wrong, you'd fix it easily," she replied, smiling out of the corner of her mouth.

Thomas rolled his shoulders back, stepping to Mirabella's side and watching the dots settle back to a regular blinking pattern. "That was odd," He observed aloud, hoping he wouldn't have to call a technician. "I hope everything is going well at the other Sanctuaries. What with that monster they created last week." He said, reaching his right hand up and biting his nails at the realization. "Oh dear. Do you think they weren't able to contain it, and it escaped?" He started breathing more roughly, because even having all the guards protecting him would be no match for a lab created monster.

Mirabella turned to him, following him with her gaze. Her fingers were still tapping on her leg, and she bit her lip slightly. "Even if it did, this Sanctuary is the strongest. We're safe here. Plus, there's always guards here. Especially now that half of them have basically moved in."

Thomas shook his head, leaning back against one of the empty lab tables. "We haven't even received information on what this monster possibly looks like," He said, fighting back a hiccup in his throat. "What if it's a gigantic twelve feet creature? It could easily step on all of my guards, and I'd be left to fend for myself. I'm not entirely sure how to fight against a twelve foot monster, Mirabella." He felt his usual standoffish nature disappear, and he swayed.

"Get the information, then think about what to do next. It won't be a twelve foot monster, Thomas. Stop panicking over the unknown, find out what it is," Mirabella replied, making sure to make her tone slightly calmer than it normally was. Her fingers were still tapping on her leg, and she cautiously took a step forward as he swayed.

Thomas took in Mirabella's words with as much of his own optimism as he could. He swallowed back any fear and nodded, letting his lips curl into the slightest smile. "Thank you," He said, turning and sliding his ID chip across the scanner. The door to the Sanctuary opened, and he stepped back. "After you." He crossed his arms, stealing a glance back at the electronic blueprint. The dots had calmed, and he assured himself it was a simple malfunction.

Stepping through the door, Mirabella looked around to Thomas. "If you want reassurance, we could head over to the scientists, see if they have any information about the monster?" she suggested, lifting her palms.

Thomas narrowed his eyes, realizing he hadn't gone to visit the scientists in quite a while. His guards rarely spoke to him, probably fearing they would get fired if they said the wrong thing. He didn't let his pace falter behind as he followed Mirabella down the stairs. "That would be a good idea, yes," he said, bringing a hand up to rub his earlobe, what he always did when he was anxious. "And maybe then I can pay a visit to these three girls Shelby Huff was so intent on traumatizing." he let himself chuckle a little, knowing what he was getting into when he hired the reckless woman to work for him.
