personality. iolana often exempts unusual behavior, sometimes odd and random, sometimes cold, grouchy, and distant. she is very daring and has a knack for risks so she often ends up in troublesome situations. she'll mess around to rid herself of boredom, or turn serious events into games and will never take the workers seriously. she despises the government with a passion, and that also comes with hating the sanctuary workers too, even if they are innocent. being quite stubborn, she'll never find herself to forgive the workers that experimented on her and locked her up twice. since she did escape once, she puts herself at the top of the "sanctuary food-chain" and thinks herself stronger than most. she looks down on weaker patients and thinks what they have coming for them is deserved, even if it is death. despite having someone she can call a friend, she still holds to her philosophy, though deep down she would help nio if it came to a grave situation. due to her "the stronger survive" idealogy she can come off as very arrogant and prideful. this leads to higher confidence and a more feisty, flirty, and playful behavior. she usually lacks empathy and distances herself from people sometimes. however, in reality, she truly feels lonely, longing for a close and real relationship. she's not so good at making friends, despite her seemingly-extroverted personality. due to her BPD, she often has trouble with trust, unstable relationships, a distorted sense of herself, and strong emotional reactions. if it gets severe, iolana may turn to self-harming actions, often resulting in seeking adrenaline-filled activities. breaking down due to long stored-away emotions happens occasionally, and she can panic due to her PTSD. if someone finds her in the state of a breakdown, she'll feel absolutely horrible for being seen in such a vulnerable state and snap at any attempt of pitying her.

enhanced agility helps iolana both move and fight with ease and swiftness. a plus is being able to do gymnast-type tricks.

pressure manipulation allows iolana to control the amount of pressure on objects or people, though the farther she uses it from herself, the harder the toll on her body it causes. pressure control can cause explosions or crushing. the side effect causes opened wounds/bleeding and fatigue.

iolana grew up in hawaii, raised by her hawaiian-japanese parents quite shortly. one day she was kidnapped, and thrown into child trafficking when she was at the age of twelve. she was taken to the states but ended up escaping a year later. however, because of her fear of adults after the traumatic events she went through, she ended up living homeless and stealing to survive on the streets. unfortunately, she was put into a lousy foster home after being found wandering a back alleyway for food. the foster parents were kind but didn't know how to handle iolana, who they soon put to a therapist. she ended up being exposed to the chemicals from the sanctuary's blast. after the therapist, who had connections with the sanctuary, found out about her powers, she was sent to the sanctuary and filed under mentally insane so her foster parents wouldn't question a thing. at the time, sanctuary 097 wasn't as secure as others. she hated how they ran tests and experiments on her, as well as the other patients. she was forced to use her abilities and powers as a weapon for the military. at fifteen she escaped after years of secretly understanding her powers more, using her pressure manipulation. she found her foster parents, needing a place to stay, and thought they would understand if she told them the truth. however, they began to fear she was truly mentally insane as the sanctuary workers told them. they called in the workers to come to get her again, but since iolana wanted anything but being captured and put back in the sanctuary, her emotions controlled her decisions. her good-hearted and innocent foster parents were killed gruesomely. iolana had used her pressure manipulation, ultimately causing them to crush in on themselves. traumatized, she fled and lived again on the streets, traveling around the country to get away from her pursuers. however, she was found several months later after being on the run. now she's been put under even more surveillance back in the same place she hated so much. memory and brainwashed, iolana doesn't remember as much as she used to, therefore, unable to escape twice in a row. though her memories of her past are foggy, they sometimes come up and cause her to breakdown and panic. some of the more cruel scientists and psychologists have used those memories to control her as well.
