Sanctuary 001 Entrance

Sanctuary 001 Entrance is a secret room in the White House that has the technology nearly everyone has dreamed of owning themselves. Electronic blueprints line the walls, and guards stand before the tunnel that leads directly to the Sanctuary, weapons drawn. Of course, the Sanctuary can only be seen from this tunnel. On every other side of the building is a hidden force field, making it invisible to the tourists constantly coming to the White House. A few testing tables stand in one corner of the room where scientists can experiment with the embryos in a safer environment, but they are rarely used. There are exactly seven locks on the door to get in the room, and the door to the Sanctuary; you need a special ID card, as well as your face and thumbprint registered into the touchpad.

Thomas walked into the blueprint room, watching cars and trucks rush down the freeway underneath the clear tunnel. He ran his finger over an electronic blueprint of Sanctuary 038 where a new clutch of eggs was being incubated. A blinking red dot indicated where each egg was located, and a clock in the corner showed how long it would be until they were ready to hatch. He felt almost ashamed that most likely these eggs would not survive-the only clutch that had survived was the Dangerous Seven. He shook his head with a sigh and approached the tunnel, sliding his identification card onto the reader and stepping closer so the machine could register his face. The clear force field lifted with a burst of air, but he turned back when he remembered the takeout bag of breakfast he'd brought and placed next to main entrance.

Mirabella walked over to the entrance, going through the bridge and rolling her eyes slightly when she saw Thomas. "Thomas," she greeted, walking past him and through where the force field would be then pausing where she stood and turned around. "Nice to see you here this early. I thought the President slept in until noon."

Thomas unwrapped his butter croissant and took a bite, turning when Mirabella walked in. He sighed, dabbing a napkin to his mouth and placing both back inside the bag. "Good morning to you, too," he said, ignoring her last comment. "How have you been?" he asked, stepping onto the moving walkway of the tunnel and wrapping his hand around the silver railing. He tried his best to act normal, given their history.

Mirabella followed him onto the walkway, smiling far too sweetly. "I've been great, actually. Stayed over at Dane's place for the night a few days ago. You know, the president of 038? Nice woman. How about you? Killed anybody else recently?"

Thomas had to suppress a laugh, but at the same time he winced. He knew what Mira was trying to do, but he still felt a pang of regret for ever getting involved with her in the first place. Now, he couldn't shake her away. The walkway was moving much slower than it normally did, he realized with a sigh. Except it wasn't, he just felt like time was dragging out for no reason except the universe trying to annoy him. "Good for you," he responded, pursing his lips. "I'm doing fine." he smiled, ignoring her last comment once more and shoving his hands into his pockets to fiddle with the edge of his identification card.

"Good for you," Mira hummed, shrugging and leaning back on the rail. Once they arrived, she gestured for Thomas to open the door and stood up straight. "Ladies first," she commented dryly, leaning on her leg and raising an eyebrow at him.

Thomas rolled his eyes, stepping off the walkway and reaching into his takeout bag and took another painfully slow bite of his croissant just to spite Mirabella. He licked his lips and took out his identification card, sliding it over the reader. When it blinked twice, he leaned forward to let it scan over his face. He stepped aside so Mira could do the same, relieved that they were about to go their separate ways.

Mira smiled as she walked through, turning around again to raise an eyebrow at him. "Why are you here, anyway?" she asked, folding her arms and looking him up and down again. "What are you doing?"

Thomas scoffed, running a hand through his hair. "I am the president, if my memory serves correctly," he said with such a matter-of-fact tone that even he felt like laughing at it. "One of the scientists called me in for questions about a few patients." he didn't feel like he needed to explain himself to Mira, but maybe it would make their interaction go faster and he could finally go back to doing his job.

With a roll of her eyes, Mirabella folded her arms. "Well, nice of you to show up with us lowly workers, Mr President," she smiled, reaching into her pocket and taking out her own identification card. Sliding it over the reader and showing her face to the scanner, she walked through the door and turned around, waiting for him to walk through and sighing.

Thomas didn't let his smile falter as he walked through the door, blinking to adjust to the darkness inside the admissions room. He turned to Mira and nodded. "See you around," he told her, taking another slow and savory bite of his croissant. "I'll update everyone with news if I get any." he added, running his hand through his hair again for no apparent reason except that it calmed him.
