Sanctuary 001 Batting Cage

Sanctuary 001 Batting Cage is one of the many game areas where patients can go to practice batting. It is located on Level 3, along with all of the miscellaneous rooms. It can only be accessed through the communal showers and locker rooms because it is required to wear special gear before entering. There are about six different tunnels to practice, and near the entrance to each is a cabinet to gather any extra supplies. This is one of the rooms built because the President wanted to do everything he could to make the patients feel welcome.

Evelynn tied her hair up into a high ponytail, before walking into the cabinets area to grab her special gear and supplies. Batting was always a fun pastime for the sixteen-year-old since it was one of the few things that didn't require more than one person, and was somewhat exciting. She slipped off her black leather jacket, one of her favorite clothing pieces, and patted it as she set it down with a smile before grabbing a bat and resting the top upper half on her shoulder.

Aida frowned as she walked into the 'batting cage', whatever that was. She'd gone through the locker room, dressed in a mix of her gym gear and casual clothes - and by that, she was wearing leggings and trainers instead of jeans and boots - and was looking around the room that she had no idea how to use. She'd never even heard of a batting cage and had waited a while before turning up. Not for any particular reason, just because. She looked around for a bat, assuming at least that was needed, then noticed Evelynn and gave her a two-fingered wave. "Nice to see you," she greeted, unable to resist a small smile.

Evelynn smiled in return, which she usually would tend to avoid, but Aida was one of the few people she could actually relax around. Opening one of the batting cage's doors, she stepped in and swung her bat a few times to test the feeling of it. "Ever done this before?" She questioned, glancing over her shoulder at Aida in curiosity.

Aida shook her head, shrugging. “Is it that obvious?” she asked with a short laugh, running her hand through her hair. She followed Evelynn’s move, picking up a bat and swinging it as a test. She then moved into the cage next to her friend’s, eyebrows furrowed together a bit. “There isn’t running involved, right?”

Evelynn's eyes lit up as she let out a small laugh. "No of course not!" She pointed to the the machine at the end of the cage, "That's gonna shoot some balls at you, which you need to swing at. Pretty simple." She glanced up at Aida, thinking for a moment. "You might want to put a helmet on though, just in case," Evelynn advised, smiling with a nod to a rack with baseball helmets on it

"Oh, sounds easy," Aida replied, following Evelynn's gaze and making a sound easily interpreted as laziness. She stuck the baseball bat between her legs and opened a portal that led to beneath one of the helmets. It flew at her, then nearly immediately fell thanks to gravity, and she shut the portal again, picking up the helmet and putting it on. "Done. How do you start the thing?" she asked, looking over to her friend once more.

Evelynn pressed a few buttons on a tablet nearby; she couldn't lie to herself, the tech here was impressive. "Just set in your settings and you're good to go!" She replied, taking a step onto the line on the ground before getting into a stance. She swung as the first ball hurled towards her, successfully causing it to hit the back of the cage with a loud clang. Finger-gunning at Aida, she smiled. "And that's how it's done. Now you try," Evelynn urged, shortly before swinging at another ball.

Aida snorted, stepping forwards a little with a shake of her head. She glanced down to make sure she was at the line, then mirrored Evelynn's stance. Mouthing numbers, she counted the beats until the ball was thrown. She waited, counting up to seven, and then the first ball flew. She swung the bat, successfully hitting it and grinning. "Awesome," she said, before quickly hitting at another one (and missing). Ah well, part of the fun of it.

Sienna stumbled in, nearly tripping over herself as she tried to adjust the special baseball gear that she managed to shove herself into. She had no idea why she was here, other than the fact that Evelynn had once told her it was favorite pastime. Hopefully, she would find her, and if not, she was just embarrassing herself. She rounded the corner towards the batting cages, adjusting her helmet that was one size too large. She sighed with relief when she saw Aida and Evelynn practicing in one of the cages. She ducked under the netting and pressed against the side of the cage so she wouldn't come near any of the flying baseballs. "Good morning," she chuckled nervously, but lightening up when Aida missed one of the balls and giving her a hearty thumbs-up. "How can y'all get up this early just to hit a bunch of balls? Also, this gear is so heavy, please help." she flailed her wrists in the air, falling onto Aida's side and letting her helmet roll to the ground.

Safdar walked into the room, lightly tapping everything in front of him to flesh out his surroundings. He had followed Sienna, hoping to find something interesting to do. "You guys seem to be having fun in here," he laughed, sitting down on the floor in between one of the nets and the back wall. He cringed slightly at the sound of Sienna's whining, followed by her helmet falling to the ground.

Evelynn chuckled, giving Aida an "okay" sign with her one hand as the other supported the bat that was now resting on her shoulder. "You'll get the hang of it! Practice makes perfect," She responded as her eyes crinkled into a smile. She swung almost full force on the next ball, causing it to fly across the cage even quicker. Noticing the sound of Sienna's voice, she gave a little wave. "Good morning," She called back over the sound of the machine whirring, giving a small shoulder shrug in response to Safdar's comment, "Just a simple morning exercise."

Aida gestured towards Evelynn, her friend saying everything she would have if she wanted to answer. She gave Sienna a wave, nudging her to the side so she wouldn't hit her with the bat, and swung at another ball as it came towards her. Hitting this one, she turned to Sienna and shrugged. "If you want help putting it on, ask Evelynn. This is my first time actually doing the batting," she answered, hitting in the direction of another ball and wincing when she missed again. "It is pretty fun, though. Even if I'm not the best."
