Sanctuary 038 Level 4

Sanctuary 038 Level 4 is where the dangerous criminals are kept, each receiving their own small white padded room. A single air mattress lies in the corner of the rooms, with a white pillow for the patients to rest their heads on. Most of the patients have a few possessions, like a teddy bear or blanket, and those can be kept in the corners of the room since there are no shelves or tables. The door to the room is clearly outlined by a square of cocoa brown, so it pops out against the white pads on the walls. The patients kept here are considered the most deadly and powerful that even the guards fear putting magnets in the walls. They often leave the padded room doors open, but the entire level is locked until therapy, mealtime, and other various activities they complete during the day.

Adrian opened his eyes, used to the void of silence in his padded room but still pressing his hands to his ears to create some sound. As every night goes, last night he barely fell asleep because of the unbearable silence. He had worked a cold sweat into his pillow and paced around the room barefoot for at least an hour just to be assured by the soft noise of his feet. He even reduced himself to cuddling with his old teddy bear, which had been siting in the corner of his room for ages. Now, he released the pressure on his ears and listened to the shuffle of the guards outside, probably prepping the hallway for roaming hours. He hoped that his one true friend, Mylarna, would not be too tired to come with him as he traced his steps through the various rooms, another almost daily task he thought he must complete.

Mylarna laid on the floor of her cell, hair spread out above her head as she looked up at the ceiling. As she waited for the doors to open, she tilted her head and started painting on the ceiling in random colours and shapes. Sighing, she wiped it all away with a flick of her wrist so it was all white and restarted. Looking over to the corner of the room, she began painting it a shade of black, then starting to put small white dots everywhere. Slowly, she replicated the sun on the left, then started doing the planets.

Adrian jerked his head up as the automatic door system vibrated and clicked on, watching the padded frame open and felt a rush of certainty in his chest, as if the gates to heaven were opening in front of him. He jumped up on his feet and softly stepped into the hallway. He peered into Mylarna's room and sighed with relief at the sight of her awake, simply painting planets onto the wall. He bit the inside of his cheek, another one of his odd tics, and sat down on her mattress next to her. "How did you sleep?" he asked her, his voice still groggy from his own short lived slumber.

"On and off," Mylarna replied, glancing over to Adrian as he came in and turning back to the wall, continuing to paint onto it as she sighed and shrugged. "If you came in 10 minutes earlier, you would have seen a cobweb stretching all the way across the room," she hummed slightly, her finger making swirls in the air as the movements were duplicated onto the wall in a much neater way. Once she finished on the wall, she looked up and started painting a galaxy on the ceiling, using her other hand to blend the colours of space together. If anyone touched it, it'd still feel the exact same as the room, but it was the colours that counted.

Jiyoon raised her head from her pillow where she had been laying and staring at the ceiling, overhearing voices coming from the nearby rooms. Putting on her best and most charming smile, and fixing her hair, she walked out of the room, but stopped right when she found a stray spider. Bending down, she coaxed into her hand while cooing at it and sprang up onto her feet. Sauntering over to Mylarna's room where the conversation had come from, she stood in the doorway. "Hello there friends!" Jiyoon greeted in a sing-song voice, still holding onto the spider in her closed hand, "Cobwebs? Oh, you'll never guess what I found on the way here."

“Is it a cobweb?” Mylarna deadpanned, glancing away from the ceiling where galaxies were being formed to look at Jiyoon. She saw her hand was closed and raised an eyebrow, then looked back up at the ceiling, finishing the galaxy painting there and extending it down the wall on her right. “Don’t mind me, I’m bored and this was the first thing I thought of,” she added as an afterthought, corners of her lips tilted up.

Adrian frowned at the mention of cobwebs, remembering his recurring nightmares of being in his cell and having spiders crawling towards him and falling onto him from the ceiling and entangling him in their webs and - Stop, stop, stop. he pressed against his temples, thankful for Jiyoon to break the deafening silence. "What did you find?" he said very monotonously. He felt very numb from thinking about his nightmares, so decided to play with his powers to fix himself. He outstretched a palm and watched as a small tulip grew, but quickly squeezed his other hand shut and smiled when the tulip exploded into a pile of dirt.

Jiyoon almost skipped over to Adrian from the eagerness to share her discovery with new friends. "He's so cute! Just look at how beautiful he is... ah, such wonderful creatures," She chimed as her palm opened up to show a small black spider that continued to crawl around in her hand. Jiyoon cooed at it, completely oblivious to Adrian's deathly fear of anything to do with spiders.

Mylarna stifled a laugh, sitting up with her eyes on Jiyoon and the spider. She wasn't actually afraid of spiders - she was either scared of everything or nothing, so spiders weren't much to add to that list - but she knew others didn't like them and she really wanted to see Adrian's reaction to it. "Very cute," she complimented. "Where'd you find him?"

Adrian widened his eyes at the spider, immediately stumbling backwards. "How-how are you just letting that thing crawl around in your hand?" he spat, already flinching from the feeling of thousands of spiders on his body. "Cute? You guys are fucking insane." he started violently scratching his arms, but not daring to take his eyes off of the spider in Jiyoon's hand in fear that it would jump at him at any moment.

Jiyoon beamed at Mylarna's interest and was about to reply before Adrian interrupted her. Her expression switched to a pout as Adrian stumbled back in shock, narrowing her dark eyes at him in irritation. "How could you ever say that!" She gasped dramatically, wrenching her hand back from Adrian as her other palm protectively enclosed the spider once more, "You're the one scaring it, being all fussy."

Mylarna snorted, looking between the two and looking back up to the ceiling, spreading the galaxy further across it. "I think they're scaring each other," she helpfully contributed to the conversation, tucking her hair behind her ears. "One's all long-limbed and hairy, and the other one's a spider," she added, unable to resist the insult as soon as she thought of it. She didn't even have anything against Adrian, it was just fun.

Adrian scowled, letting his back slide against the wall as he lowered himself to the floor. He instinctively brought his knees up to rest his head on them, still watching Jiyoon's hands even after she closed them. At Mylarna's comment, he shot a glare at her, pursing his lips. "How could I possibly be scaring that beast," he narrowed his eyes, imagining the black monster crawling in the palm of her hand and sucking her blood. "Where did you even find it? Don't tell me those could be in my cell too."

Malik woke up to the sound of 'you guys are fucking insane' from down the hall. He pursed his lips, kicking his feet over the side of the mattress. He was small enough that they didn't touch the ground, but he jumped down and made his way over to the door. He was barely getting used to the blinding white walls of his room, having only been on level four for eight months now. He slipped on his sandals and peered into the hallway, eyes lidded. "H-Huh?" He walked down to the other room, blinking at their commotion and weighing whether or not he should go back to his own or not.

Jiyoon bit her lip, holding back the laughter that itched to come out of her throat after Mylarna's casual diss. Standing upright and holding her chin up high, she gave a nonchalant shrug in response. "I found it in the hallway just as I was making my way here to kindly greet you both, and if it wanted it would probably be living its nice little life somewhere in the corner of your cell," She retorted, emphasizing her words before turning quickly as her enhanced senses picked up on someone approaching, "Oh, good morning Malik! Look, I found a little friend!"

Malik blinked at the spider, before smiling softly. "Oh. Whas its name?" He himself had an obsession with naming things. While spiders did end up being something he didn't like very much, he didn't mind as long as they weren't on him. He glanced down at Adrian in sympathy, not waiting for Jiyoon's response before stepping closer to his 'older brother'. "Is okay," he reached out to touch the older boy's hand, before pulling away (he'll yank your wrist. he'll throw you to the ground). "Joon is joking. You dun hafta touch it," he whispered. He hated how he couldn't pronounce their names correctly, but learning came slowly.

"Oh, but it would be so fun for him to touch it," Mylarna practically whined, the grin on her face taking away from the impact of her words. "Fine." She pushed herself to her feet, painting a little more galaxy in the sky and blending the colours. "Hey, Malik." She tapped her foot on the floor, pursing her lips together and blowing air. "Anybody wanna go do something? It's stuffy in here."

Adrian gave a quick and obviously fake smile to Malik before pressing his palms against the floor to lift himself up. "I would never touch that thing in a million years, Jesus Christ," he spat, moving against the wall towards the exit. "And yes, please. Let's do something fun other than talk about spiders." he rolled his eyes, running a hand through his hair.

"Millun?" Malik furrowed his brows and tried to count on his fingers. "How much?" He squinted, trying to remember what the caretakers taught him. He gave up and decidedly looked up at the galaxy that Mylarna was making. "Myral is doing that??" He pointed up for emphasis, his excitement making his speech simpler than before. He noticed quickly, blushed,and brought his hand back down. His eyes were still glued to the ceiling, though.

Jiyoon sighed before letting the spider go and watching it crawl off out the doorway. "I agree, fresh air would be nice," She replied, although she had a longing gaze on something in the distance; most likely recalling memories of being outside.

"Yes, I am," Mylarna answered, pride evident in her tone. "To another room, then? Perhaps... relaxation room?" she continued, hands on her hips as she tried to think of any other room that they had access to in the morning, and was relatively fresh air-y. And would hopefully have less people, but you never really knew.

Zoe got up from where she was sitting in her room, hearing voices. She stood in the corridor, leaning on the wall, and waited for somebody to notice her. Well, not really, she just wanted to know what was going on. Lurking.

Malik nodded along, blinking at the unfamiliar word. "Relasition?" He mumbled, embarrassed that he couldn't understand his fellow patient. He fiddled the hem of his hugely over-sized pyjamas, the medium in men's size draping over him like a dress. "Is it far?"

Adrian shrugged, heading out the door but stopping in the doorway when everyone kept talking. He sighed dramatically and turned around, both arms raised to the side and palms pressed into the sides of the doorway. "It's just a level below us," he explained to Malik. "Just to relax, I suppose." he pursed his lips when he felt someone watching, and whipped his head out the door to see Zoe standing in the corridor. "Good morning to you," he greeted, raising the corner of his lips into a half smile.

Zoe grinned, giving him a wave. "You too," she answered, walking a little closer and leaning against the opposite wall, back to it instead of just her shoulder. She ran her nails - not the deadly ones - through her hair and blew a strand away from her face. "Relaxation room, huh? Mind if I join in on the fun?" she asked, knowing it wasn't a question because she'd follow anyway.

Adrian crossed his arms over his chest and leaned against the padded walls with a sigh. "If you'd like," he smiled, turning to peer back into Mylarna's room. "Are you ladies coming?" he hissed, completely ignoring Malik. Turning back to Zoe, he ran a hand through his messy blonde hair and raised an eyebrow. "So sudden. You almost never join us." he pursed his lips and pushed himself from the wall, dragging his feet along the floor and brushing his shoulder against Zoe's as he led the way to the relaxations room.

Jiyoon ignored Adrian's dramatic plea to get going, and turned once more to Malik, her face brightening up. She grabbed his hand, meaning to lead the way with a friendly smile, "Don't worry! Just stick with Mylarna and me, we'll show you how everything works," She explained with a sudden change of tone in her voice, having a soft spot for kids.

Anthony was being led into the hallway by a guard, who nudged him gently with one of their guns before walking off to their post. He had just returned from one of his many doctor checkups. At the sight of people, the gloves on his hands made a crinkling noise as he adjusted the mask covering his nose and mouth subconsciously. Too nervous and too shy to say anything, he only glanced at Adrian and shortly after at Zoe, wondering if they were heading somewhere.

Malik flinched at the contact but didn't have time to protest as he tried to focus on keeping up with Jiyoon. He gave a hesitant smile at her enthusiasm though, and slipped his wrist into a more comfortable position so he could grip her hand tighter. "O-Okay!" His eyes trailed away to Anthony's form, and the brunette could only offer a small wave before he stumbled again.
